Memorial Granite Carving

Flat carve

The memorials that we create are carved into the granite using a sand blasting procedure.  The name and designs are carved into the face of the memorial, which may include an axed surface. The axed surface of the stone is what we call paneled, where the polish surface of the granite is removed. This creates a contrasted area on the memorial where the design and lettering are carved deeper and painted to accentuate the design.

There are two styles of carving that we provide for our memorials.  The first being flat carved where the outline of the design is carved and interior of the design is paneled.  The second carving is what we call shaped carved where the outline of the design is carved and the interior of the design is shaped to provide a relief look to the design.  The second method works well for flowers and plants.  The choice of carving will influence the overall cost of the memorial.
